Overview

I developed an AI-Based Assistant System tailored for a university environment, designed to streamline academic support and student-faculty communication. This intelligent platform includes two distinct portals—one for admin/faculty and another for students. By integrating OpenAI's ChatGPT-3.5 Turbo and GPT-4 APIs, the assistant provides human-like responses to academic queries via text and voice interfaces. The system offers real-time, personalized academic assistance, enhancing the overall student experience.

Universities often face challenges in responding to high volumes of student queries related to results, timetables, and academic records. Traditional systems are often slow and require manual intervention. My goal was to build an assistant that could intelligently handle these queries at scale, while keeping data management efficient for administrators.

Solution

I created a robust backend using Django, where admins/faculty can upload student data (such as marksheets, timetables, and results) via CSV files. This data is stored in Django models and instantly becomes accessible to the AI assistant. On the student portal, users can either type or speak their queries. The assistant processes these queries using GPT-3.5 or GPT-4 APIs—finetuned for the academic domain—to provide accurate, contextual answers about their marks, schedules, subjects, or academic status.

It replaced traditional helpdesk systems with an intelligent, scalable chatbot interface capable of answering complex academic queries. The dual-portal setup also empowered faculty and admins to manage data seamlessly, ensuring up-to-date information for every interaction.
